Un clásico de leyenda entre los grandes: Ford Maverick

 Todo un personaje mítico de la época dorada del automovilismo y la furia por la velocidad. Rey de las décadas de los años ´60 y ´70, el Ford Maverick pertenece a ese club selecto de los muscle cars que se quedaron para siempre en la memoria de todos.

Seductor, varonil, objeto de deseo de muchos y un verdadero caballo de Atila, el Ford Maverick se conoció en 1969 y fue producido en serie hasta conseguir unas 579 mil unidades fabricadas del modelo, solo para 1970. Toda una proeza.
Creado para no pasar de moda como las verdaderas leyendas, sucedió al Ford Mustang, otro de los grandes de la insigne compañía norteamericana. Exactamente, este modelo vio la luz 5 años más tarde que el glorioso Mustang.

Su esplendor crece hasta hoy, sin embargo, la producción del Ford Maverick fue cayendo hasta ser detenida durante los críticos años de la crisis del petróleo. Por esos días, Ford también comenzó a fabricar automóviles más grandes como estrategia de mercado.

Seat 600

España no es conocida por poseer una marca emblemática 100% propia. Sin embargo, una prueba de su capacidad para desarrollar la industria del automóvil son estos 7 coches míticos, fabricados por los ibéricos. 

El primero en encabezar esta lista es el fabuloso Seat 600. Este fantástico coche español se basó en el Fiat 600 y se fabricó en España desde 1957 y hasta 1973. Se dejó de fabricar el mismo año en que se puso a la venta el Porsche 911 2.7 RS. ¿Pura casualidad?

Más adelante, en los años ´70, otro súper pero en versión coupé de altas prestaciones como el Seat 124 Sport salió del horno de las fábricas españolas. Hubo versiones de 1,6 y 1,8 litros.

Renault 4

Un ejemplo clásico para no olvidar es el mítico Renault 4 ó 4L, fabricado durante muchos años en la fábrica de FASA Renault, en la localidad hispana de Valladolid.

En esta ciudad española también se fabricó el genial deportivo Alpine A110 1300 entre 1971 y 1976.

 Otro grande de la historia del automóvil fue la furgoneta DKW 89 L, de singular diseño, que se produjo entre 1954 y 1962 en Vitoria. Ahora, allí se fabrican las Vito.

En Landaben (País Vasco), Seat fabricó el Lancia Beta HPE: un precioso deportivo con carrocería shooting brake.

Mercedes 300 SL de 1954

Dueños de grandes avances en la mecánica, la seguridad o la industria del automóvil, estos colosos son los reyes de la innovación. Los coches que aparecen en esta lista no solo mostraron algo diferente, sino que mejoraron a sus predecesores y lo hicieron posible.
Entre los primeros de esta lista está el Mercedes 300 SL de 1954, no por sus alas de gaviota, sino por ser el primer coche de producción en montar un motor de inyección.

Lohner-Porsche

También ha sido para muchos el primer súper deportivo de todos los tiempos.
Otro modelo de esta marca encabeza el top 5, en este caso es el Mercedes-Benz Clase S de 1981, el primer auto que incorporó bolsas de aire de seguridad en serie. Es uno de los logros más grandes en materia de seguridad de la historia del automovilismo.
Aunque la tracción total en los clásicos tiene una historia extensa y sobre todo, muy polémica, podría decirse que el primer todoterreno fabricado en masa fue el Jeep C-2A, durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. ¡Innovación total!

Belver (Havana Cuba Classic Cars) Loves classics, and as such we reconnoitre Rihanna's "Love on the Brain". This is a fantastically peculiar song. Firstly it is not so easy to realize that it is actually Rihanna who is singing and then as you listen to it, you sort of place yourself at a very 50's bar, drinking (well, whatever your favorite drink is, watching her sing holding one if this squared microphones, and sharing that rather blue moment. 

Rihanna recently visited Havana and of course enjoyed the pleasure of riding an Old American Car. While in Rome...

¿Qué extrañas de los autos antiguos?

Muy poco queda de los autos antiguos en las máquinas modernas. Sistemas automatizados, GPS, seguridad, alta tecnología…apenas si algo tienen en común los autos de hoy con sus predecesores.
 Los adelantos con que están equipados los coches automáticos los ha vuelto demasiado complicados y aburridos. Muchos amantes del automovilismo echan de menos la simpleza y autenticidad de los autos clásicos.
¿Eres de los que ama conducir por puro placer? Entonces probablemente sentirás nostalgia por el encanto de estas máquinas, aunque seguro adoras conducir con GPS y conectar tu celular al coche:
Faros elevadores: Los faros frontales que se subían y bajaban al apretar un botón eran estupendos. Es una pena que ya no se vean en los nuevos modelos.
Interiores más sencillos: Hoy en día entras en un auto de último modelo y no hay más que botones, controles y pantallas por todos lados. A veces se echa de menos la simplicidad de los autos antiguos donde solo tenías lo necesario para conducir.
Llaves que sí son llaves: ¿Recuerdan ese tiempo en el que las llaves de los autos tenían forma de llave? Las actuales parecen cualquier cosa, menos una llave y ni siquiera arrancan el auto como antes, ahora hay que introducirlas en una ranura o simplemente dejarlas sobre la consola y presionar el botón de empezar. ¿Qué hay de gracia en eso?
Cajas de cambios manuales: Es cierto que aún hay muchos autos con caja manual pero cada vez son más raros, pues se suelen preferir cambios automáticos. Pero hay que
reconocer que las cajas de cambio manuales hacen que la conducción sea mucho más divertida.
Poder arreglar tu propio auto: Los autos de antes tenían bajo el capó motores mucho más sencillos y fáciles de comprender para cualquier conductor. Pero ahora resulta impensable para muchos siquiera atreverse a asomarse al motor con todos esos sistemas eléctricos.
Volantes más sencillos: Nos gustan los volantes simples y elegantes de los autos antiguos.
Volantes que servían simplemente para dirigir el auto hacia dónde quisieras. No como los de ahora, que parecen volantes de Fórmula 1 con todos esos botones y controles.
Seguro echas de menos estas cosas y recordaste lo maravilloso de conducir un auto por puro placer. ¿Qué más extrañas de los autos antiguos?

A great fair for old engines

There are more and more collectors and people fond of the charm of classic cars every day. While they are icons of beauty and glamour, they also represent development and progress, luxury and industrialization. Which is why we had to have a great space to see the most adorable old engines in the planet roll.
Who could sponsor such an event but Germany? Germans, without a doubt love classic cars, they love both, watch and producing them.
Such is this love, that every year, in the city of Essen, they celebrate the Techno-Classic Fair, the biggest of its kind in the world.

This could be the event of the year for classic cars lovers, since at Essen, every time, over one thousand exhibitors from all over the world submit.

This is a gift to the sight of the passionate ones. On the streets, there is a beautiful parade of cars made at the beginning of the 1920's, and many others which are true jewels, worthy of being collection pieces.
Many of the models in display are still in conditions of running freely, showing all of their majesty and grace.
Since the 90's groups of amateurs travel to Cuba to take a closer look at the amount of cars remaining in the island and they are left stunned.
The truth is that the retro and vintage style of such a fair is exciting. The magnificent charm of the classics, all together, being driven along German streets. An insuperable show.

 Many classic cars shine and become famous due to their history, their speed, the genius of their shapes...... but these five have it all, and on top of it, they are beautiful. Can you ask for more?
There is not a number one or a last one for they all are special. But we have to begin by, and so we have, this Mercedes Benz 38 250 produced in Germany at the beginning of the past century between 1928 and 1932. Only some 40 units of this collection piece ran, designed by Ferdinand Porsche when he still worked for Mercedes. Authentic and old like very few.

Hispano Suiza K6 Brandone Cabriolet

The luxurious French Bugatti Type 41 Royale, made between 1929 and 1933, by three outstanding designers: Kellner, Weinberger y Ward; amongst all, this has been the most powerful of its epoch. Exclusive as a minority, only 6 units of this dashing car were produced. Today, it is one of the most unique and wanted cars in the world.
And we have yet another European creation on this illustrious list. In this case, the Hispano Suiza K6 Brandone Cabriolet, produced in Spain and France in the decade of the 30's during the past century. Exclusively designed by Etienne Brandone, some 200 units of this car, which was awarded many diverse prizes and won contests of elegance all over the world, ran.
One of the great ones is repeated, the French Bugatti Type-57 SC Atlantic, made between 1936 and 1938. Designed by Jean Bugatti himself, only three units of this car were reproduced, it's considered one of the most beautiful classics in the history of motoring.

Super expensive and even more exclusive than it is expensive, two of them have made it to our days, one of them belongs to the prestigious fashion designer Ralf Lauren.
And to finish, we have Mercedes-Benz once more, this time with the 540K Special Roadster. This was the climax of high speed tourism cars, developed by Mercedes in the 30's. This was the fastest car of its time and one of the most luxurious and elegant of all times. This model has been one of the most expensive Mercedes sold so far.

Autos clásicos: una mina de oro

Joyas, metales, inmuebles, la bolsa o la pintura pueden ser opciones claras para invertir y sacar buenas ganancias. Sin embargo, por encima de varios de estos negocios, se ha puesto de moda el coleccionismo de los autos clásicos, actividad que hoy es más rentable que muchas otras.
Un coche clásico antiguo puede llegar a cuadruplicar su valor en diez años y se revalúa más que las propias obras de arte, monedas o estampillas.
Estudios realizados al respecto, determinaron que las marcas más rentables son Ferrari y Porsche, especialmente los vehículos producidos en las décadas del 50 y 60. Estas posibilidades de duplicar o hasta cuadruplicar la inversión inicial, lo hacen un negocio seguro.

En 2015, por ejemplo, el auto por el que más se pagó fue un Ferrari 290 MM, unidad que perteneciera al famosísimo piloto de carreras Juan Manuel Fangio y que fue fabricada en su honor luego de obtener el campeonato de Fórmula 1, en 1965. Un comprador anónimo abonó 28 millones de dólares.
Y sin ir más lejos, por otro Ferrari en 2014 se pagaron 38,1 millones de dólares. En este caso, fue un 250 GTO Berlinetta, de 1962. En su momento, la casa encargada de la subasta la calificó como “el Santo Grial para los coleccionistas del mundo entero”. No es para menos.
Con estos truenos, ¿quién se acuerda de oro?

Extraordinary classics of the history of the cinema

These starries of the big screen do not receive awards or pose for fashion and society magazines. However, other than actors and directors, many times they are the stars of the film. These classic cars have a personality of their own and a protagonist roll in films that have made history.

Ford Deuce Coupe (1932)

The first one of this top five is the 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe, immortalized in the movie American Graffiti from 1973. This classic deserves all respect, after becoming a collection piece for the lovers of old cars, thanks to director George Lucas. Actually, the band The Beach Boys dedicated a song to it as well as its fourth album, both entitled Little Deuce Coupe.

Another great Ford is the Thunderbird Convertible (1966), possibly the most famous of all after being the protagonist in the super film Thelma and Louise, 1991. This convertible is the star of Ridley Scott's popular road movie, accompanying Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis along their unforgettable adventure.

The third one of this list is the wonderful  Ford Falcon XB (1973), launched in the film Mad Max, 1979. This is no less than the fabulous car driven by Mel Gibson in George Miller's film, a work to worship by the lovers of the futurist western. This great car is a collection piece nowadays.

Of course, in this list we had to mention at least one of the James Bond's classics. The peculiar British secret agent most famous in the history of the cinema, has driven dozens of espectacular cars, but we have chosen the most noticed of all. We are, of course, talking about the magnificent  Lotus Esprit S1 (1976), used in the saga during the film The Spy Who Loved Me, from 1977.

And closing the list the Austin Mini Cooper S (1961). The Mini is much more than a movies car: it is history on four wheels, an authentic icon of its epoch. And so it proved itself to be in the film by
Peter Collinson, The Italian Job, from 1969. This great engine in its sporting version dominated four competitions of the Montecarlo rally between 1964 and 1967.

As you can see, nothing escapes the capacity of these cars to look fantastic on the big screen.

If collecting a part is already something tremendous, imagine collecting classic cars from the past and the present. How much pride and devotion wouldn't you feel should you possess a magic list such as the one of these five lucky men.

The first one is the TV actor and comedian Jerry Seinfeld, one the most famous contemporary comedians in the USA. Seinfeld, however, is quite serious when it comes to his Porsches collection.
Actually, he takes such good care of them that he frequently rents an entire hangar in an airport in California just to conserve his machines of steel. His collection is so vast that it includes some of the classic models 911, of different years, ten Porsche Boxters (each in a different color) and also, the very expensive 959 Porsche (its estimated cost is 700. 000 US dollars).
Another cars fanatic is Ken Lingenfelter, an American finacier, who is fond of "muscle cars" and super sporting cars.
In no time, he became one of the biggest collectors if the U. S. with rare Corvettes, Dodges, Impalas, Camaros and cars such as Bugatti Veyron and even an Enzo Ferrari.
There's also Jay Leno, the popular presenter of The Tonight Show, who has bought depots the size of three football fields to store his collection of over 80 cars and 80 motorcycles. Made up of all the best, of course. Amongst the pieces we can find models of cars from the beginning of the twentieth century, from the decade of the fifties, a formula 1 car of McLaren, and even a 1941 firefighter's truck.Ralph Lauren, the company, other than fashion, is also into good cars. The more the better. Their collection of old classics include models of Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz and Bentley. It is one of the most valuable collections in the world. There is a reason why the collection of the company of Ralph Lauren is kept in a secret place.
And last but not least, on the contrary, he is one of the greatest classic cars collector: Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei. This oil multimillionaire has the greatest compilation of automobiles in the planet. It is 2,500 vehicles, amongst them some of the fastest, more expensive and most bizarre in the world: Rolls Royce, Mercedes-Benz , Ferraris, Bentleys, BMWs, Lamborghinis and much more...
It is more than incredible, it is hallucinating.

 Along the history of motoring, which already has quite some years to its account, an attractive offer of collections and pieces which belong in museums has been formed. All over the world, the so called engine tourism grows and positions itself.
Worldwide, people create museums to display cars coming in all brands and sizes. Here are five options you can't miss!
As a first option we propose the Museum of Roda, in Lérida, Spain. It is an original initiative, displaying cars belonging to the the Clubs of Classics in the city and it is placed in an old mechanical work shop.
Among its most interesting pieces is the old Taxi of Barcelona.
Another building to highlight is the Museum of Caramulu, Portugal. It began as a collection, which belonged to João de Lacerda, in 1955 with a Ford T from 1925. At present, this museum has a permanent exhibit of 30 motorcycles and 65 automobiles, representing 36 brands of about 7 different countries.

Placed in a beautiful landscape not so easy to get to, the museum Torre de Loizaga has the most comprehensive collection of Rolls-Royce in the world, for they have at least one unit of every model ever made by this brand. Most of them are perfectly conserved to these days.
The Museo de la Historia de la Automoción (Museum of the History of Automotion) in Salamanca is also amongst the greatest museums. It's main pillar is the Gómez Planche Collection, made up of more than one hundred vehicles, thousands of parts, accessories and objects related to automobiles, as well as an impressive bibliographical archive, gathered for forty years.
And closing up the museum Braga Fafe, in Portugal, considered for many years the "Rallies Cathedral". Braga has preserved a good taste for automobiles with a modern museum inaugurated in 1996, it exhibits a display of the classics from 1903 to 1996. It is regarded as one of the most complete contemporary museums in the planet.
